Reposition the refrigerator – Fridges run more efficiently when they have airflow behind them. Pull your fridge an inch or two away from the wall to improve air circulation to the unit. This will ensure your compressor does not get too hot and overheats. Compressor repairs are very costly.
Clean Your fridge – Vacuum the dust off the condenser coil on your fridge once a month to keep it running more efficiently. Also wiping down the seals periodically will keep the mold away.
Prevent ice buildup in freezer – Put a thin layer of cooking spray inside your freezer and wipe it down. The small amount of spray that remains will help prevent ice from building up.
Re-magnetize refrigerator doors – If the magnets on your fridge door seals are weak, you can re-magnetize them by running a powerful magnet along the gasket in the same direction approximately 50 times for the best results.
Empty your ice bin – Ice that sits in your freezer for a long time can form a large chunk in the bottom of your bin and can start to smell bad if it sits too long. Empty your ice bin once a month for fresh, odorless, clean ice.
Fill the freezer – Your freezer works more efficiently when it is full of frozen items. If you don’t have much to put in your freezer, fill a couple of milk jugs with water and freeze them. This will ensure you keep the freezer running to the best of its ability.
