Samsung dryers flash a short code when something’s wrong — and most of the common ones trace back to airflow. Here’s what each Samsung dryer error code means, what to try first, and when to call a technician.

Samsung dryer error codes at a glance

Code What it means What to try
HC / hC Overheating (restricted vent) Clean the lint screen and vent thoroughly
tS / tO Temperature-sensor error Usually a clogged vent — clean the lint screen and duct
dC / dE Door error Close the door firmly; clear any obstruction
9E1 / 9C1 Low / abnormal voltage Use a dedicated circuit (no extension cord); check the cord

Codes vary by model — check your manual if yours isn’t listed.

The most common codes — and how to fix them

HC — overheating

The dryer is running too hot, almost always from a restricted vent. Try first: clean the lint screen and clear the full vent duct. Don’t keep running it hot — this is a fire-safety code.

tS / tO — temperature sensor

A temperature-sensor reading is out of range, again often a clogged vent. Try first: clean the lint screen and duct; if it persists after that, the sensor may need service.

dC — door

The door isn’t registering as closed. Try first: close it firmly and clear any obstruction; check the latch.

9E1 — voltage

Abnormal voltage to the dryer. Try first: make sure it’s on its own circuit with no extension cord, and that the power cord is installed correctly.

One safety note: a clogged lint screen or vent is the #1 cause of dryer error codes — and a real fire risk. Clearing it often fixes the code outright; see our maintenance guide for how.

The bottom line

Most dryer codes come down to a clogged vent or an inexpensive part (a thermal fuse, thermistor, or heating element) — repairing is almost always cheaper than replacing. If a code won’t clear, we repair Samsung dryers (and every major brand) across DFW, usually same-day. Not sure yours is worth fixing? See our dryer repair-or-replace guide.
