817-900-8324Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, and Amana ovens share the same control platform and fault codes. Newer models show F#E# codes; older ones show a single F code. Here’s what each means, what to try first, and when to call a technician.
| Code | What it means | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| F2E0 / F7 | Stuck or shorted key (touchpad) | Press Cancel, wait 60s; clean the panel; replace touchpad if it persists |
| F2 | Oven over-temperature (runaway) | Safety shutdown — needs the sensor/control checked by a tech |
| F3 / F3E0 / F4 | Oven temperature sensor open/shorted | Test the sensor (RTD); replace if out of spec |
| F1 / F5 | Control board (clock/ERC) failure | Reset at the breaker; may need a new control |
| F9 | Door lock fault | Check the latch; reset at the breaker |
Codes vary by model — check your manual if yours isn’t listed.
A touchpad button is stuck or shorted. Try first: press Cancel, cut power at the breaker for 60 seconds, and clean any spills off the panel. If it returns, the touchpad/control needs replacing.
The oven temperature sensor (RTD) reads open or shorted. Try first: a breaker reset; if the code returns, the sensor is the usual fix. See also oven temperature problems.
The oven is overheating and shut down to protect itself. This is a safety code — don’t override it; it needs the sensor and control checked.
A control-board (ERC) fault. Try first: a full breaker reset; if it persists, the control board likely needs replacing.
A safety note: over-temperature codes (the oven running hotter than set) are a protective shutdown — don’t override them or force the oven back on. And with a gas range, if you ever smell gas, leave and call your gas company’s emergency line.
Most oven and range codes trace back to one part — a temperature sensor, a bake/broil element, a touchpad, or a door lock — and repairing is almost always cheaper than replacing. If a code won’t clear, we repair Whirlpool, KitchenAid and Maytag ranges (and every major brand) across DFW, usually same-day. Not sure yours is worth fixing?
