Samsung washers show a short code when something’s wrong — and many are quick fixes you can do yourself, not a reason to replace the machine. Here’s what each Samsung washing-machine error code means, what to try first, and when to call a technician.

Samsung washer error codes at a glance

Code What it means What to try
4C / 4E Water won’t fill Open both taps fully; unkink fill hoses; clean inlet screens
4C2 / 4E2 Hot & cold hoses swapped Reconnect cold-to-cold and hot-to-hot
5C / 5E / nd Won’t drain Clear the drain hose and pump filter of clogs
OC / OF Overflow Check the drain system for a blockage
dc / Ub / UE Unbalanced load Redistribute the laundry; make sure the washer is level
LC / LE / 1E Leak detected Check hoses and connections for leaks
dE / dL Door won’t lock Close the door firmly; clear any obstruction

3C / 3E Motor fault Needs service
9C / PF Power / voltage fault Plug into a dedicated outlet (no extension cord); restart

Codes vary slightly by model — check your manual if yours isn’t listed.

The most common codes — and how to fix them

4C — won’t fill

Water isn’t entering correctly. Try first: open both water taps fully, unkink the fill hoses, and clean the small inlet screens. A common cause is the hoses being slightly closed after a move. Still stuck? See washer won’t fill.

5C / nd — won’t drain

The washer can’t drain at the right speed. Try first: clear the drain hose and the debris filter. Still stuck? The drain pump may be failing — see washer won’t drain.

dc / Ub — unbalanced load

The drum can’t balance the load to spin. Try first: open the door, redistribute the laundry, and confirm the machine is level. Recurring? See washer won’t spin.

LC — leak detected

The washer sensed moisture where it shouldn’t be. Try first: check behind the machine for kinked or leaking hoses. Confirmed leak? Don’t keep running it — see washer leaking water.

dE — door won’t lock

The door isn’t registering as locked. Try first: close it firmly and clear any obstruction; unplug for a minute to reset. Still stuck? The door-lock assembly may need replacing.

Codes that usually need a technician

A few point to component faults rather than something you clear at home — tE (temperature sensor), 3C/3E (motor), and 9C/PF (electrical). If one keeps returning after a reset, get a professional diagnosis before it does more damage.

The bottom line
