Bosch dishwashers (and Bosch-built Thermador models) show an “E” code when something’s wrong — and the most common ones are quick fixes you can do yourself. Here’s what each Bosch dishwasher error code means, what to try first, and when to call a technician.

Bosch dishwasher error codes at a glance

Code What it means What to try
E15 / E:15 Water in the base pan (leak protection tripped) Tilt the unit forward to drain the pan and let it dry; check the door gasket
E22 Filter blocked Remove and clean the filter at the bottom of the tub
E24 Won’t drain Clean the filter and clear/unkink the drain hose
E25 Drain pump blocked or cover loose Check the drain-pump cover (under the filter) and clear debris
E09 Heating-element fault Usually needs service
H01 / h:01 Delay-start timer set (not a fault) Cancel the delay in the settings

Codes vary by model — check your manual if yours isn’t listed.

The most common codes — and how to fix them

E15 — water in the base

Bosch’s leak-protection system found water in the base pan and won’t run until it’s clear. Try first: turn off the power and water, tilt the unit forward to drain the pan, and let it dry fully. Returns? A worn door gasket or a slow leak is the usual cause — worth a professional look.

E24 — won’t drain

Almost always a clogged filter or kinked drain hose. Try first: clean the filter and straighten/clear the drain hose. Still stuck? See dishwasher not draining.

E22 — filter blocked

Food debris has clogged the filter, which also causes poor cleaning. Try first: remove and rinse the filter. See also dishwasher not cleaning.

E25 — drain pump blocked

The drain-pump cover is loose or the impeller is jammed. Try first: remove the filter, check the pump cover seats correctly, and clear any debris.

The bottom line

Most dishwasher error codes come down to a clogged filter, a kinked hose, or an inexpensive part — repairing is almost always cheaper than replacing. If a code won’t clear, we repair Bosch dishwashers (and every major brand) across DFW, usually same-day. Not sure yours is worth fixing? See our dishwasher repair-or-replace guide.
