LG dishwashers flash a two-letter code when something’s wrong — and many are quick fixes you can do yourself. Here’s what each LG dishwasher error code means, what to try first, and when to call a technician.

LG dishwasher error codes at a glance

Code What it means What to try
IE Won’t fill Check the supply valve is on and the inlet hose isn’t kinked
OE Won’t drain Clear/unkink the drain hose; check the hose height
FE Overfill Power-cycle at the breaker for 10 sec; start a new cycle
AE / E1 Leak detected (float tripped) Find and fix the leak before reusing
LE Motor fault Usually needs service
HE Heater fault Usually needs service
tE Water too hot / thermistor Check the water heater setting; may need service

Codes vary by model — check your manual if yours isn’t listed.

The most common codes — and how to fix them

IE — won’t fill

The tub didn’t fill enough within the fill time. Try first: make sure the supply valve is fully open and the inlet line isn’t kinked (water pressure should be 20–120 PSI).

OE — won’t drain

The most common LG dishwasher code — usually a drain clog or hose problem. Try first: clear and unkink the drain hose and check its height. Still stuck? See dishwasher not draining.

AE / E1 — leak detected

A leak tripped the float switch. Try first: check under and around the unit and at the hose connections; the leak must be fixed before the dishwasher will run again.

FE — overfill

Too much water entered the tub. Try first: turn the dishwasher off at the breaker for 10 seconds, then start a new cycle. Returns? The inlet valve may be sticking and need service.

The bottom line

Most dishwasher error codes come down to a clogged filter, a kinked hose, or an inexpensive part — repairing is almost always cheaper than replacing. If a code won’t clear, we repair LG dishwashers (and every major brand) across DFW, usually same-day. Not sure yours is worth fixing? See our dishwasher repair-or-replace guide.
